Calle Lucena: Pedestrianization work to be finished in October
Works to make calle Lucena a pedestrians only zone will be completed by the middle of October, according to an announcement made by the mayor of Antequera, Ricardo Millán.
He commented that the job has been complex with there being problems admitting that "the main cause of the delays and disruptions have been due to the contractor." Millán assured that the work is more or less on schedule as modifications have been added to the project by the town hall. The original completion date was due to be the 18th September. The first project included the street being tarmac, but since then the amendments have been made for it to have granite paving stones laid. Millán believes that the works will be completed by the middle of October with only the linking up of the street to the calle Infante don Fernando remaining. This project belongs to the second phase. Millán trusts that once the road is opened up to the public the merchants will recover from their loss of revenue during the period of disruption. He reiterated that after the councils additions the contractors will not be in breach of contract if the work meets its finishing date of the 17th October. The street will be opened up to the public as a pedestrian walkway and will have similar access to that of calle Comedias, with an improvement made to the commercial and resident vehicle access. Millán also announced changes to traffic rotation in the calle Comedies, were still to be defined along with Maderuelos and calle Rey.
